SOLAR FLARES 2023. The sun is beginning to enter a more active time for flares that cause solar storms that can impact the Earth. These images are based on an idea from June 2023 put into a practice study. By August 2023, an exciting month for very intense solar flares, we experienced more dramatic solar flare activity approaching Earth. Now, surprisingly, northern lights could soon be seen (possibly!) as far south as Maryland this December 2023. I would love to experience that! Gallery 3.75 Solar Flares

As for the paintings, keep in mind that I am personally affected by the sun with my autoimmune condition that includes symptoms of Lupus. Mornings and evenings are the times I’m outside in the summer. Now, I have to compromise, being blinded by daylight and experiencing skin reactions is very difficult. I once worshipped the sun!
Of the three displayed, the painting with overlapping circles worked well in a composition. Use of natural elements as well as vibrant paint helped create the feeling I have and the images photographed by NASA. Coincidentally, as I type this on November 30, 2023, a strong solar flare is hitting earth!
One more try with a wider round template is up next. Even on an “off” day you can create surprises. Had to stop while I was ahead. The late October sun is lower and the days a little shorter. It’s a mild autumn here in Maryland and I wonder what new atmospheric spectacles this winter brings our way. I hope to compile and post a Gallery 4 taking inspiration from our elements and the extreme weather changes all over our climate changing planet.
Each work is 22” x 30”, Liquitex Spray medium, various organic materials and created stencils.
